Hoarfrost on Antoine Peak

On December 10, 2017, I made another trip up Antoine Peak. Down here in the valley, the major weather influence was an inversion. The top of Antoine was up in the fog. I thought that there might be some good displays of hoarfrost, and was completely rewarded with the best show I've ever seen.

A Geology Lesson in Mirabeau Park

Mirabeau Park isn't too far from where I live, and it's a great place to walk and enjoy nature. But I've noticed some white lines in the rocks, some straight, while others were at an approximately 40 degree angle to the straight lines. Below the jump break, there are plenty of pictures plus a link to a very interesting website that covers what happened here many years ago.

October '17 Photos

The fall colors weren't as spectacular this year as last, with us having a few ill timed rain and wind storms this year. Anyway, last month's photos are below the jump break.

Sept '17 Photos

This month was a very slow month for photo taking, maybe because we were quite busy at work and the smoke was horrendous. Anyway, the photos are below the jump break.

Mt. Spokane Trips

This year, I went up Mt. Spokane twice. Photos below.

Sundials

Sundials are interesting to me and below are some photos of two that I've found in the area.

Spokane River At Flood Stage

These photos were taken on March 19, 2017. This level of water is the fifth highest since measurements started in 1894, according to a Spokesman Review article.

I also uploaded some videos of the rushing water to Youtube. To easily get you there, a link is published below.

Still photos are below the jump break.

Spokane River Wide-Angled Photos

Assorted photos of the Spokane River which were taken near my home.

Antoine Peak Wide-Angle Photos

One of my favorite places to hike is Antoine Peak. It's within 20 minutes of my door, a relatively easy hike to the top and some good views.

Mt. Spokane Wide-Angle Photos

I've expanded my photography hobby a bit after beginning to take pictures with the "pano" (panoramic) feature on my iphone. Here are some shots from Mt. Spokane.

Saltese Uplands Conservation Area

I took this hike on July 16, 2017. I am used to areas around here having more trees than this area has, so didn't properly prepare with sunscreen and got a little burned. Lesson learned for the next time out there. :) There are fabulous views of Mica Peak and down onto Liberty Lake.

Amateur radio has been on the International Space Station for 20 years now.

Fishtrap Lake, WA

On April 22nd, we got up at 2 AM and went out to Fishtrap Lake Recreation Area. The Spokane Astronomical Society uses this area as their "go-to" spot for dark sky viewing. Northern lights were active that night, but we missed it as they had peaked earlier in the night and clouds had begun to move in.

On May 20, 2017, we took a Saturday trip to Deary, Idaho to visit a family member, then on to Moscow and Lewiston, Idaho where the following photos were taken.

Felts Field - Spring 2017

The local airport has had a couple of neat events this spring.  Pics below of some of the aircraft that were on display.

Bloomsday 2017

This year, I decided to walk Bloomsday since it's something "everybody" has to do once. :) My time on the 7.46 mile course was 2:30:47, so obviously I didn't hurry too much. A few photos are below.

An Unusual Stump

After the Spokane River had receded, I was walking down by the riverbank and found this stump. I have no idea if it had washed in (I doubt it), but the colorful rocks held in place by the weathered tree roots were very interesting to look at.

McKenzie Conservation Area

Here are a few photos that I took while visiting the conservation area by Newman Lake, WA.

Trying Out My Mountain Bike

Work continues to be slow, but since I've got so much vacation time, it's working out good so far.

A bunch of miscellaneous pictures

I'm making more space on the camera's memory card, and got the urge to work on it this morning. Some of these may be repeats from old posts here somewhere.

December 2016 Scenic Photos

We received quite a bit of snow in December. It was certainly beautiful to walk around in.
